1,387 miles down range…

3,023 to go…These are catch-up entries…

3/29/2016  The first night just south of Redding was magical. We called from the road to find a place. At their suggestion “for $5 more you can be on the river”. We found the space and got things set up… WP_20160329_15_30_48_Pro[1]

Nary a second thought was given. Through the front window of the coach…

WP_20160329_19_15_15_Pro[1]…and Sacramento River runs through it… only getting better with sunset.

It was nicely warm outside and I traded my shoes for Keens and pants for shorts. Poured myself a glass of wine and watched the sun goes down. Wondering how long will this last?

3/30/2016  The California slog…

There is nothing redeeming about I-5 or Highway 99 for that matter. Its a drive that is simply endured. Pot holed, shuddering and perpetually under construction. From Redding to Bakersfield the one gem was Bravo Farms. A non-descript not even road side restaurant, vegetable stand and purveyor of tacos. Who knew, we just pulled off. Collectively we just needed to stop and all the rest areas thus far were closed or unavailable…Barb asked if i wanted Corn or Flour  I said Flour…we got Corn. They are structurally equivalent to scaffolding in a poor third world country. Marginally effective but incapable of containing their contents. Koko was applying as a driver…

We went through Bakersfield to to an RV park in the middle of an orange grove. Overrated would be the term. Somehow oranges & oil rigs just don’t seem complementary,  but what do I know…

Being a NW dog, grass is where it’s at…In the orange grove it’s nowhere to be found, reluctantly had to settle for dirt. She was not a fan.

We did our follow on planning and weather sometimes it really messes up plans. So, the next stop was to be Flagstaff…After reviewing the forecast well not so much so…Snowing and 22 degrees. Great, Plan C now. After reviewing our options we opted to go further south near Phoenix it was 77 and sunny. Two longer days but I could keep my Keens on.

3/31/2016 Bakersfield to just west of Phoenix in Eagle View RV…and Casino…

…Yes it was a compromise as to location and distance. But seriously, how many more casinos does this nation need? We’ve see tens if not more traversing the back roads from Bakersfield. Whatever, it’s a fool and his money…

Coming through Tehapachi at sunrise on Hwy 58 there was this one home perched at top of a peak powered by a windmill. A complete 360 degree view. Awesome real estate. Wish I had taken a photo but it was too dark and we were on a mission.

Regardless we’re here. Its great accommodations at the RV park but Koko is singularly unimpressed…no grass. She’s taken to parking herself in her new favorite place…

Dad, I’m ready to go…find me some grass…
